How to Set Up The Jar Widget

The Jar widget from Streamlabs is a fun, interactive way to celebrate engagement on your stream. When someone tips, subscribes, cheers bits, or sends a Super Chat, their contribution drops into a virtual jar right on screen. It's a simple but effective way to recognize viewer support across platforms while adding visual flair to your layout.

If you're multistreaming (which we encourage), you can include events from multiple platforms in the widget. Keep reading to learn how to set up and customize The Jar in Streamlabs Dashboard (to use in your preferred streaming software) and Streamlabs Desktop.

What Is The Jar Widget?

The Jar widget visually represents viewer activity by "dropping" animated tokens (or something else) into a jar whenever someone supports your stream through bits, tips, stars, subs, or other enabled actions. It's a great way to gamify viewer interaction and create more on-screen engagement.

How to Set Up The Jar in Streamlabs Dashboard

Step 1: Log in to your Streamlabs Dashboard and navigate to All Widgets in the sidebar. Search and select The Jar (or click this link to go directly to the settings/setup page).

Step 2: Under Events, check the platforms and actions you want to track. Below are the events you can configure for your tip jar.

• Likes

Step 3: Next, choose your jar by picking from several available glass shapes.

Step 4: Customize your minimums for tips, bits, or Super Chats so that only actions over a specified threshold drop items into the jar on stream. This incentivizes folks to tip, drop bits, or Super Chat just a bit more.

Step 5: Use the Tip Images window to set what visuals are dropped into the jar (e.g., the default bronze, silver, or gold coins, depending on tip amounts).

You can even upload your custom images or use assets available in the Streamlabs Media Gallery, such as stock images and Streamlabs Collectibles.

Step 4: Tweak the appearance of the widget by changing the font and color settings or adding a different background color.

FYI, you'll see a green background by default on your dashboard, but it will chromakey to reveal a transparent background.

Step 5: Need more customization? Enable Custom HTML/CSS if you want to go beyond visual settings and fully personalize your widget.

When you're happy with your setup, click Save Settings. Then copy your Widget URL and paste it as a browser source in your streaming software (like OBS Studio), or continue below for directions on setting up in Streamlabs Desktop.

How to Set up The Jar in Streamlabs Desktop

Step 1: Open Streamlabs Desktop, go to your Sources panel, and click the + button.

Step 2: Find and select The Jar, then click Add Source.

Step 3: Next, name your widget (or leave the default) and click Add Source again.

Step 4: If you've already configured The Jar in your Streamlabs Dashboard, those settings should carry over automatically. Otherwise, you can customize it in-app just like you would in the dashboard.

• Events Tracked: Choose from tips, subs, bits, likes, Super Chats, and more across platforms like Twitch, YouTube, Facebook, and Streamlabs.
• Jar Style: Pick from a variety of jar/glass shapes.
• Tip Images: Upload custom images or animations or grab some that are available through Stremalabs Media Gallery.
• Font Settings: Adjust font type, size, and color.
• Text Display: Toggles visibility on/off
• Background Color: Set your preferred background (default is chroma key green).
• Thresholds: Set minimum amounts for tips, bits, and Super Chats.
• Advanced Styling: Enable Custom HTML/CSS for more control.

Step 5: Once you're finished, click the Done button to add to your stream. Now you can drag and resize The Jar widget on your canvas to fit your stream layout.

Now, The Jar widget is set up and added to your stream, so your audience can see their support in action, dropping right into your virtual jar.
