How to Import Media from URL in Streamlabs Video Editor

On Streamlabs Video Editor, it's possible to upload media to your project three different ways;

  1. Upload it directly from your computer
  2. Upload it from a mobile device using a QR code
  3. Import it from an external URL

Let's focus on #3: Import from URL.

Import from URL | Streamlabs Video Editor

Importing media from a URL is an incredibly fast way to get your content from platforms like Twitch or YouTube directly into Streamlabs Video Editor, where you can edit it and re-publish. The full list of supported platforms are:

  1. Twitch
  2. YouTube
  3. Vimeo
  4. Streamable
  5. Trovo
  6. Google Drive

Additionally, any direct URL to a video source will work as well.

Before you upload a video with this, make sure that the URL is pointing directly to the video source (not a full web page that happens to also contain a video). If you take a look at the URL, you can tell it's formatted correctly if it matches the following examples for each platform.

Twitch

There are 3 URL formats that will work for Twitch. Your links should look like one of these:

  • https://twitch.tv/videos/{id}
  • https://twitch.tv/{username}/clip/{clip_id}
  • https://clips.twitch.tv/{id}

YouTube

  • https://youtube.com/watch?v={id}
  • https://youtube.com/shorts/{id}

Vimeo

  • https://vimeo.com/{id}

Streamable

  • https://streamable.com/{id}

Trovo

  • https://trovo.live/s/{username}/{id}?vid={id}

Google Drive

When uploading from Google Drive, make sure the file's viewing permissions have been set to "Public" or "accessible without authentication" via link.

  • https://drive.google.com/file/d/{id}/view?usp=sharing

If you have any questions or feedback for this feature, please reach out to us by email any time at hello@video-editor.streamlabs.com. If there are other platforms you'd like to see supported with this feature, please let us know as well.
