Streamlabs Applications (such as OBS Plugin, Chatbot, and Streamlabels) may be improperly flagged by AntiVirus / Windows Defender

Date Reported:

9/27/2024 2:30am PST

Notes:

After consulting our developers, we can confirm this is a false flag by Microsoft that arose on September 27th.

Work Arounds:

1. Add Program as an Exlusion in Windows Defender

Depending on what application is being falsely flagged will depend on what folder(s) you need to add as an exclusion. Use the chart below for what you would need to add:

Program What to add as an exclusion
Streamlabs OBS Plugin
  • StreamlabsPluginUpdater
    (C:\Program Files (x86)\StreamlabsPluginUpdater)
  • obs-studio
    (C:\Program Files\obs-studio)
Stream Labels Streamlabels (C:\Users\YOURNAME\Local\Programs\streamlabels)
Chatbot Streamlabs Chatbot (C:\Windows.old\Users\YOURNAME\AppData\Roaming\Streamlabs\Streamlabs Chatbot)

If you are unsure how to add an exclusion, you can follow Microsoft's Windows 10 & 11 guide here.

2. Re-Install the Program & Allow it Through

First, please ensure that you are installing our programs from Streamlabs.com. Do not install from a third-party site. The links for each of these programs are below:

Once you have downloaded the software from one of these three URLs you can do the following:

  1. Expand 'Actions' on the Windows Defender window
  2. Add as 'Reputable' or 'Trusted' Application.

OR

  1. Click on 'Learn More' on the Windows Defender window
  2. Allow the application.

Because Windows Defender deleted or quarantined some files, you may be unable to use the uninstall option. To resolve this issue and after allowing the application, we recommend to re-download and re-install it. Then, you should be able to uninstall it properly.
